REFRACTORY AND INSULATION

Overview

Refractory Materials

A refractory material or refractory is a heat-resistant material: that is, a mineral that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, most commonly applied to a mineral that retains strength and form at high temperatures.

ASTM C71 defines refractories as “…non-metallic materials having those chemical and physical properties that make them applicable for structures, or as components of systems, that are exposed to environments above 1,000 °C

Refractory materials are used in furnaces, kilns, incinerators, and reactors.

Refractories are also used to make crucibles and moulds for casting glass and metals and for surfacing flame deflector systems for rocket launch structures. Today, the iron- and steel-industry and metal casting sectors use approximately 70% of all refractories produced.

Insulation Materials:

  • Insulation is the process of keeping HEAT, SOUND, OR ELECTRICITY from spreading. It can also mean the material that reduces or prevents the transmission of heat or sound or electricity i.e. an insulating material; an insulant.
  • The act of protecting something by surrounding it with material that reduces or prevents the transmission of SOUND OR HEAT OR ELECTRICITY.

What We Do

Thermal (Heat) Insulation

Thermal insulation is the process of reducing; minimizing; retarding; or restricting the flow or transfer of heat between objects in thermal contact or in range of radiative influence. Thermal insulation is measured by its thermal conductivity. Low thermal-conductive materials are used for thermal insulation. Besides thermal conductivity, density and heat capacity are also important properties of insulating materials.

Sound (Acoustic) Insulation

Sound Insulation is the process of preventing sound waves from permeating. It’s the overall ability of a material to reduce the transmission of sound through it. It is demonstrated by the sound transmission loss which is expressed by the difference of decibels between the incident sound and permeated sound.

Electricity Insulation

An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely; very little electric current will flow through it under the influence of an electric field. Insulation World Kenya Limited holds in stock Electrical Insulating Mats (Electromats) that are used in power rooms to prevent users from experiencing electric shock when handling power control panels.
