R134A is also known as Tetrafluoroethane (CF3CH2F) from the family of HFC refrigerant. With the discovery of the damaging effect of CFCs and HCFCs refrigerants to the ozone layer, the HFC family of refrigerant has been widely used as their replacement.R134a is a HFC, used in automotive air conditioning and as a replacement for R12 and R22 in medium and high temperature refrigeration applications, such as commercial and domestic refrigeration and chillers.  It has also been used to replace refrigerants R12 and R500 in coolers. It exists in gas form when expose to the environment as the boiling temperature is -26.1°C (-14.9°F)

R-134a is an HFC refrigerant, which requires polyolester (POE) lubricant to be used in the compressor.
